I watched an article on the news this morning highlighting the plight of Ghanaian farmers and urging us to pay a little extra for their products to improve their lives. I have no problem at all with the principle of this. What I do have a problem with is the widespread profiteering by governments and middle men. By the time my little donation has been taxed, paid bribes and given someone a profit....very little gets to where it is intended to be - and where it most needed!!!!! If African countries want aid then they should stop the arms dealing, the civil wars, the bribery and corruption that goes on and start helping themselves before holding out the begging bowl.
THE GOVERNMENTS OF THE THE POORER COUNTRIES NEED TO GET THEIR HOUSES IN ORDER AND ENCOURAGE SELF HELP BEFORE LOOKING FOR HELP FROM OTHERS.
