NIGHT LIGHTS

Some councils are considering switching off street lights at night to reduce the carbon footprint (oh yes it will save cash as well).  There are fears that crime will increase as a result and they are probably pretty well founded.

So, why not reach a compromise...switch off traffic lights and pelican crossings between 12.30am and 6.00am and switch off street lights on one side of the street, or you could reduce the intensity of the lights and put them on low power!  Doesn't seem to be rocket sience to me that compromises can be considered.

I THINK SOMEONE SWITCHED OFF THE BRIGHT IDEAS TO SAVE MONEY

EU DO IT AGAIN

The EU have announced an increase of 7000 new posts at a cost of £8 billion as they set up "embassies" in Mauritius, Barbados, USA, Fiji, Solomon Islands and Cape Verde.  One has to ask the question why?

With the exception of the USA which of these other destinations will contribute a huge amount to the income or structure of the EU?  Can't see a lot of Fijians, Soloman Islanders or Cape Verdians heading for their holidays in Italy, Spain or UK.  Don't think there are huge opportunties in those countries for trade links either!

THEY SOUND LIKE NICE POSTINGS THOUGH....WHERE CAN I GET AN APPLICATION FORM?

X FACTOR

I was made to endure the first of this seasons X Factor auditions on TV this week.  What planet are some these people on?  They look weird and they can't hold a note.  Don't they realise it is a singing show! AND who on earth told them they could sing and should enter the competition? (shame on you - you have one warped sense of humour or you hate the individual with a vengence)

To add to it there are now allegations and admissions that some of the post production work includes electronic manipulation to make some of the singers voices sound better!

IF THAT IS WHAT SOME OF THE CLOWNS I SAW ON SATURDAY SOUND LIKE AFTER THEIR VOICES HAVE BEEN MANIPULATED TO SOUND BETTER, WHAT DID THEY SOUND LIKE BEFORE!

DRUG USERS

A major think tank have decided that what we call those poor unfortunates who take illegal substances does not help their rehabilitation.

Apparently we should stop calling the sensitive little darlings junkies and addicts because it stigmatises them!

These poor little wallflowers are the same creatures that break into houses, shop lift, and assault folk to pay for their habit (can we still call it that?)

LETS CONCENTRATE OUR EFFORTS IN REDUCING USEAGE RATHER THAN THE SEMANTICS AROUND IT

BAD LANGUAGE

I was listening to local radio the other day and was quite shocked to hear the DJ use mild bad language.  Is this the thin edge of the wedge?

I am not perfect and have used the odd profanity myself but not on a public media.  Ok the guy spoke about "a pain in the ass" and "some music these days is crap"  hardly the "F" word but, come on, these guys have a social responsibility.  If they use these terms then kids who listen to them feel they have the right to use them as well.

KEEP BAD LANGUAGE - EVEN THE MILDER PHRASES OFF THE RADIO

COWARDS

A 90 year old man has been mugged for £40 and a bus pass on the doorstep of his home. As a result of the attack he fell and broke his hip.  That injury has led to the old man's death.

In his youth he was a bit of a hard man and would have "ripped the muggers head off" according to his son.

Mugging anyone is bad enough but what kind of creature attacks such an old guy.

Problem is, even if this animal is caught he will probably get community service at the most!

I HOPE THIS COWARD GETS CAUGHT AND ROTS IN PRISON FOR A WHILE - SOMEHOW I DON'T THINK EITHER WILL HAPPEN.

Update - apparently someone has been caught for this so lets hope part two comes to pass as well!

FAMILIES

I read in the tabloids that the family of a well known, and very wealthy, celebrity are hitting hard times - messy divorce, ill advised choice of partner, claiming benefits etc.  I do hope life gets better for them but the ariticle suggests that the celebrity has left them isolated and should help out.

It's only when you read on that you see that the celeb in question bought them a home, pays for their mobile phone bills and regularly gives them gift vouchers for a shopping mall.

Well excuse me, the clebs siblings are big people and have their own lives to lead, they have got where they are through their choices good or bad...The cleb should not have to "bail them out" for making bad decisions in their lives, I think they have already done more than could be expected.

THIS IS ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF THE PRESS TRYING TO MAKE A STORY OUT OF NOTHING

EU DONE IT AGAIN

The European Union make grants to organisations to help them grow and to assist the communities that either they serve or to which they give employment.  Apparently one of the conditions of the grant is that the EU symbols are prominently displayed on all literature and company inforrmation.

It appears that some of the grant beneficiaries didn't understand the rules on displaying logos and can now be fined up to £1.5m.  Sorry but I thought the grants were made to improve circumstances how come a deviation from the rules ends up with such a draconian punishment.  Surely the EU would be better to warn the miscreants and if the "offence" continues then  withdraw or cease the grant rather than impose fines......AND, surely if the recipients need the grant, following the rules is not too much to ask.

HAPPY FACES AT AIRPORTS

Is it my imagination or does no one nowadays seem to have a happy face.  I know that is rich coming from someone who runs a moan blog, bit at least I smile when I moan.

I did a fair bit of travelling last week through airports.  What a miserable load of sods.  Folk in the queues were stroppy and bad tempered with the security folk who were sulky and stroppy back.  The passengers on the plane all looked as if they were returning from a wet weekend somewhere and the staff kept bumping into me with that damn trolley thing.

Even the armed cops at Heathrow looked disinterested and as if they wanted to be somewhere else.  The only person that smiled back at me was the very busy young girl in the food outlet..well done.

I now play a game where I smile at everyone as I approach them and see if I can cause them to smile back........haven't had a lot of success so don't know how long that game will last.

LETS ALL SMILE AT SOMEONE TODAY AND SEE IF THEY WILL SMILE BACK  IF THEY DON'T AT LEAST YOU WILL HAVE THE SATISFACTION OF KNOWING THAT THEY WILL BE WONDERING ALL DAY WHAT THE MORON THEY SAW THIS MORNING WAS GRINNING AT!

PRIMA DONNAS

A celebrity witness had to be subpoenaed to attend the trial of a war crimes accused in the Hague.

She said she did not want to attend as it was "an inconvenience" and she had to take time out of a busy schedule.

JUST HOW MUCH OF AN "INCONVENIENCE" WAS IT FOR THE SO MANY PEOPLE SLAUGHTERED IN RWANDA?

ELFIN SAFETY

A Childrens playgroup have been ordered not to inflate and use their paddling pools because they may block access for the Fire Service IF they have to attend a fire on the premises.

Elfin generally means small... so just how small minded can these bureacratic jobsworths be.  Surely a big red trumpton mobile on its way to an emergency can drive over a plastic, air inflated kids paddling pool.  Pardon me but big hunky firemen who slide down poles and rescue maidens down ladders can surely jump over/lift/walk round the pool.

Even the fire service in the area suggested that the watter in the pool might be useful for fighting the fire.

Health and Safety is important and was introduced to improve working and living conditions but surely we now need to retitle it....Health, Safety and Common Sense.

AS VOLTAIRE ONCE SAID - "THE PROBLEM WITH COMMON SENSE IS THAT IS NOT SO COMMON"!

REMOTE CONTROLS

We have so many remote controls in the house now it is crazy - remotes for TV's, DVDs, Blue Rays, Digi Boxes, satellite TV, music systems etc etc etc

All these remotes and none of them have the same terminology or lay out.  On one of our digital TV boxes the EPG button does the same as the Guide button on another.  In the first, it is in the top left hand corner and in the second it is in the second last row second in from the left.

I have tried one of these - multi remote gadgets but to be honest.....it didn't work, I couldn't remember if the blue button had to be pressed for the TV or the DVD, or whether th red button set it to control the Sat box or the music system, in the end it was easier to go to the gadget and work it directly!

Why can't the manufacturers get together and agree a standard wording on them and a standard positioning of the keys.   Every time a new gadget comes into the house I have to organise a training course for Mrs Moaning Old Git who always ends up telling me where to shove the remote!

LETS SIMPLIFY THE REMOTES, IAM RUNNING OUT OF STORAGE SPACE FOR THEM ALL

KIDS KIDS KIDS

I just picked up the following moan from a friend's facebook page and I couldn't agree more!

"I hate school holidays!! When did parents cease to have control of their kids? Nightmare today - little 'pack animals' screaming /shouting/ crying/running /tantruming everywhere! Asda food shop = incentive for contraception ! (Message to young mums everywhere - if you cant control ONE , then cross your legs, cos TWO,THREE OR MORE wont be any easier!!!!!!!!). Wish you could opt out of paying taxes which go to benefits to keep generations of work shy, bad backs and their ever increasing 'families'. Whatever Govt does now to try to reverse the sink estate/benefit culture it is way too late. ......funny how these scroungers 'on the sick' are capable of breaking sweat body popping on numerous willing females and breeding breeding breeding . . . ! (End of rant .) "

and I thought I was a champion moaner .

IF YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE KIDS.....KEEP THEM UNDER CONTROL SO THE REST OF US CAN GET ON WITH OUR LIVES

SUE THE PRISON

Double child murderer Ian Huntley is going to sue the prison for a couple of million, as someone cut his throat while he is detained at her majesty's pleasure.

He claims that the prison has a duty of care to look after him.  Well as a school janitor did he not have a duty of care to  look after Jessica Chapman and Holly Wells?

I heard a woman on TV saying that he was quite right to pursue his claim as he was sentenced to spend time in prison - not to be assualted there.  What is the world coming to?

MR HUNTLEY, PRISONS ARE DANGEROUS PLACES FULL OF MURDERERS AND PSYCHOS!  IF YOU CAN'T DO THE TIME DON'T DO THE CRIME.

TAX THE MOTORIST - THE LATEST HAIRBRAINED IDEA

It is being reported today that the Scottish Government are considering taxing drivers for every mile they travel - including driving on their own property such as driveways and private land!

Apparently they are going to use satellite tracking to see where we all get to and bill us for the privilege.

Here we go again!  The driver is the easiest target in the world for old Mr Taxman but have they honestly considered how difficult this will be to police?  Who is going to check that all the cars being driven actually have the satellite gizmos and what do foriegn visitors (including presumably our neighbours, the English) who don't have the gizmos fitted to their cars.  How are we going to be billed?  How do you ensure that the current keeper is recorded as such with the authorities and what if your car is nicked and driven for miles without your knowledge or permission........And that's all before the civil libertarians start their arguments.

SORRY HOLYROOD THINK YOU NEED TO LOOK AT THESE PLANS AGAIN.....THEN BIN THEM!
