Just read a story about a young female police officer of the muslim faith. Apparently she refused to be photographed or to shake hands with the Commissioner at her passing out parade. I can understand the photograph thing as it would undoubtably be used as a recruitment/propoganda opportunity for the Metropolitan Police. As far as the refusal to shake hands. She cited that it was against her faith for her to touch a man!!!!
OK so what is she going to do when she has to arrest a man and put hand cuffs on him? Ask him to come quietly and cuff himself?? She must have known about these issues before she joined the Police and you would think the Police would have found out if there were any restrictions.
Sorry, I am all for diversity and allowing personal choice on religion BUT surely the the woman concerned needs to question her ability to do the job that she has applied for given her religious beliefs. I doubt a vegetarian would want to work in a slaughterhouse or someone who is colour blind working in a piant factory!
WE ALL HAVE TO MAKE CHOICES THAT ARE SENSIBLE AND MEET OUR BELIEFS.
