Now is the time when little girls and boys all over the UK collect horse chestnuts, tie string to them and challenge each other to conker competitions.
Not in Nottingham apparently. Last year a little girl fractured her skull when a stick she threw into the tree came down and hit her on the head.
This year, to avoid a repeat, the council have sent out their workers to strip the trees of the conkers. Isn't that a good use of council resources?
